Great Basin National ParkIn eastern Nevada, most of the way to Utah, Great Basin National Park is worth the all-day drive it takes to get there. Contrary to the common misperception that Nevada is all scrub brush and arid ranges, the park has mountains, alpine lakes, forests, and limestone caves. Wildlife includes pronghorn antelopes, mule deer, ringtail cats, mountain lions, bobcats, mountain sheep, and many kinds of lizards and snakes. Bird watchers can look forward to seeing northern shovelers, cinnamon teals, gadwalls, mergansers (common and red breasted), several kinds of raptors, blue grouse, great horned owls, common nighthawks, black-chinned hummingbirds... and those are just a few of the birds commonly seen. For more about the park, see the National Park Service page. |
