Nadia Su

Chiu-hua (Nadia) Su is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at National Taiwan University. Also, she works as a part-time lecturer at (private) Soochow University, teaching Introduction to American Literature.
She spent a month at UNR in the summer of 2003,
seeing how people do ecocritical research in its native land. She audited
Professor Slovic's and Professor Cohen's courses, which, she says, "were
extremely enlightening. My eyes were wide open!" This experience
helped her shape the current direction of her research.
Right now, she is working on her dissertation: a phenomenological
reading of Melville's Moby-Dick. Focusing on Merleau-Ponty, she
is convinced that his phenomenology has strong ecological potential and
that the re-reading of Moby-Dick through Merleau-Ponty not only
cross-fertilizes the text and the philosophy, but also deepens our understanding
of the natural other.
