Wonchul Shin

Shin, Wonchul is a professor in the English Department at Samcheok National University, Samcheok, Kangwondo, Korea. He also serves as manager of the Modern British and American Poetry Society of Korea.

While he was at UNR in 2003-04, he studied the poetry of Gary Snyder and wrote three essays about this subject (“Inspiration from the Forest”; “Gary Snyder and the East”; and “Epic of the Pilgrimage”). These essays were published in a Korean magazine named Minerva and presented at some important seminars of American poetry in Korea.

Wonchul is also a poet who published an anthology titled Fingertips of a Tree in 2003. He had much interest in the nature of Nevada during his stay at UNR and has written many poems about American nature and American customs. They are being translated into literary English by Scott Slovic and Steven Stewart.
