Gyu Han Kang

Gyu Han Kang teaches the English Department at Cheonan University, South Korea. He also worked as Dean of Academic Affairs at his university before joining the Literature and Environment Program of UNR in January 2005.

He has been conducting his research on environmental literary studies, focusing on ecocritical theories, nature writing, and environmental approaches to contemporary fiction with an emphasis on the question of technology. His scholarly works have covered Thomas Pynchon, Henry David Thoreau, William Faulkner, James Fenimore Cooper, Mark Twain, Philip Dick, and some science fiction narratives including SF movies.

Currently he is focusing his study on reviewing the development of environmental justice discourses, rereading Walden, and reconsidering questions about technology presented in the works of Thomas Pynchon, Phillip Dick, and the film Terminator 2.

He has served ASLE-Korea as the founding Secretary for Public Relations and a member of Editorial Board. He has also worked as journal editor, secretary for publications, and treasurer for such academic associations as The American Studies Association of Korea, The Korean Society of Modern English Fiction, The Korean Society for Teaching English Literature, and The Korean Association of Literature and Film.
