Katja Lektorich
Katja Lektorich was born and raised in Verdi, a small town just West of Reno. It was in this place that she developed an intimate relationship with her home place in the Truckee Meadows. After graduating from High School she went on to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Conservation Biology at the University of Nevada, Reno and enjoyed studying animal behavior. Her love for animals led her to spend many years working closely with all sorts of creatures from house cats and domestic dogs to bears, wolves, and tigers. Her interest in literary non-fiction writing, place based narratives, and science writing as well as renewed interests in gender and cultural criticism prompted her to return to school to pursue further education in the field of English. Katja’s current interests include environmental justice, border studies, and animal studies. She continues to enjoy creative writing and is currently involved in a collaborative writing project that consists of a variety of writing inspired by growing up in this unique place called Reno.
