UNR International Affairs Alumni

Josefine Durazo

The IA program provided a solid foundation to prepare me for working in the field of international relations - from a greater understanding of Latin America's peoples, histories and politics, to the analytical and research skills necessary to excel at anything in this career field. The professors were demanding, which encouraged me to push my own limits, and their support and encouragement of extra-curricular activities helped me build experiences that proved essential to my budding career path.

Josefine Durazo is A native Nevadan who graduated from the UNR International Affairs Program in 2000 with a focus in Latin American Studies. She studied abroad in Mexico and Brazil and also received a National Security Education Program Scholarship (now known as Boren Scholars). After graduation, she worked briefly at the Meridian International Center, an NGO that works with the State Department on their International Visitor's Program. She later worked for four years as the Latin America Desk Officer in the Internal Relations Office of NASA. Two years with Science Systems and Applications Inc. (SSAI), a company subcontracted by NASA to manage their participation in a cooperative research initiative in Amazonia, relocated her to Manaus, Amazonas, where she was the Project Management Liaison. Josefine is now beginning a four-month backpacking trip, which will include a Service-Learning volunteer project in China. In fall, she begins graduate studies in International Relations – Pacific Studies at UCSD with a full-ride faculty scholarship.
