Certificate of Translation in Spanish

The Certificate of Translation in Spanish addresses the needs of students interested in Spanish translation and wishing to acquire a higher degree of competence in the field. The Certificate allows graduates to better serve, at a basic level, the ever-growing needs of the community in basic translating tasks. The Certificate will also be a first step for those interested in pursuing a professional career in the fields of translating and interpreting.

The Certificate of Translation in Spanish consists of 3 basic components for a total of 20 credits. Some of the courses required have pre-requisites (see NOTES below):

I. Translation Component—11 credits

II. Spanish Language/Linguistics Component—6 credits

NOTES

*Pre-requisites can be waived by instructor’s approval or equivalent courses at other institutions. Heritage Speakers should contact instructors or the advisor.

  1. The pre-requisite for this course is SPAN 306 (Spanish Composition II).

  6. ENG 303 or JUNIOR standing is a pre-requisite for ALL 400-level classes in the English Dept. In the Anthropology department it may have a pre-requisite of ANTH 101. Talk to the Certificate Advisor to clarify this issue.
