GERALD PETERSEN, emeritus associate professor of Spanish, received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He served as department chair from 1991 to 1994 and is was the undergraduate advisor for the department. He was also the supervisor of all first- and second-year Spanish courses before 2000. He presented a paper, "Sacred Texts: The Story of Creation and the Development of Gods in the Popul Vuh and the Bible" at the RMMLA in Salt Lake City in October of 1998. At the SWCOLT conference in Reno in April of 1999 he presented a paper "Chile: A Land Unto Itself." In April of 1999 he was the outside evaluator of the Spanish program at Western Colorado State College.
