KATHLEEN LEONARD, lecturer of Spanish, received her M.A. in Spanish from UNR in 1990. She teaches first through third-year language courses. She is also the instructor for Reading Spanish 205 & 209 offered online through 365 Learning. She has served as an undergraduate academic advisor for Spanish majors & minors for over 20 years and was the 2014 recipient of the Undergraduate Academic Advisor Award at the annual Honor the Best ceremony which celebrates the achievements of outstanding faculty, staff and students. That same year, she was inducted as an honorary member into UNR’s chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society that recognizes individuals who are especially supportive of Hispanic language and culture. She has participated in two University Study Abroad Consortium (USAC) programs in San Sebastian, Spain (1985-86) and Santiago, Chile (1990). Encouraged by her travel experiences, many of her students have studied in these programs. Language related travel includes Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, and Spain. Kathleen is currently serving as Director of the Basic Spanish Language Program which serves more than 850 students taking Spanish 111, 112, 211 and 212.
