Spring Lecture Application and Guidelines

In 2008, the Department of EnglishÕs Public Occasions Committee initiated the Spring Lecture. This lecture series is meant to provide an opportunity to bring to Nevada a speaker of national reputation, one who could deliver a talk of interest to the whole department as well as being someone whose talk would be of interest to the college, the university, and the larger local community. Nominations for this lecture will be reviewed and voted upon by the current members of the Public Occasions Committee.

Please note that we are hoping to schedule the Spring Lecture for late February or early March. Nominators should keep this range of dates in mind when considering candidates for nomination.

Nominations should include the following

1. A completed nomination form (attached below). This form should include a short narrative (no more than one page) in which you discuss the reasons for nomination; of particular importance is an explanation of why this speaker should be considered for the Spring Lecture, as opposed to a more focused departmental visit.

2. A brief vita or description of the nomineeÕs accomplishments, establishing the nomineeÕs national reputation.

Please see Gailmarie (POC, Chair) or any other committee member if you have questions or would like your application reviewed.

Nominations should be received by October 21.
