Department of English
I studied Renaissance literature at Northern Arizona University, where I
received an M.A. in 1984. I began teaching at the University of Nevada,
Reno, in 1985 and though I still love the Renaissance, I teach mostly
expository and technical writing and literature courses.(See
English 4/600 for spring 2000). I also teach and coordinate the technical
communication course for the College of Engineering (Engineering
301).
I write nonfiction and recently completed a book of essays on the Truckee
River and Pyramid Lake, a collaborative project that documents the
drought of 1987-92. The book, A Doubtful River, is a cultural history
of water use in the arid Truckee Meadows that includes historical images
and the work of two collaborators, photographers
Peter Goin and Robert Dawson. The book is scheduled to be
published in Sept. of 2000 by the University of Nevada Press.
