I am currently writing my fourth novel, DRIVING TO NOVEMBER, which is historical fantasy set in central Nevada.
SHELTER, a near-future science fiction novel about changing definitions of personhood, was published by Tor Books in 2007. Amazon.com named it one of the ten top science fiction novels of the year, and LIBRARY JOURNAL named it one of the top genre books of the year.
THE FATE OF MICE, a short-story collection, was published by Tachyon Publications in 2007. It received a starred review from PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY, and "Sorrel's Heart," one of the original stories in the collection, was chosen for Jonathan Strahan's BEST SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY OF THE YEAR, VOLUME 2 (Night Shade Books, 2008).
THE NECESSARY BEGGAR (Tor Books, 2005), is near-future fantasy set partly in Reno. The novel received starred reviews from PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY, BOOKLIST, and LIBRARY JOURNAL (which also named it one of the best genre books of 2005), and was honored with an Alex Award from the American Library Association. It also won a Silver Pen Award from the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame.
FLYING IN PLACE (Tor Books, 1992, reprinted 2005) is a psychological fantasy novel which received the Crawford Award from the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts.
