Revision and Editing Checklist    ü 


When you have finished your draft and are ready to revise and edit your paper, the following checklist might offer you help in locating problems.

o                               Can you identify your thesis sentence? 

o                               Does your thesis contain the main idea and some of the reasoning behind that idea? 

o                               Is the thesis supported in the body of the paper?

o                               Do you have an appropriate audience in mind? 

o                               Does the introduction gradually lead up to the main idea of the paper? What is it intended to do or accomplish?

o                               Does the paper progress in an organized, logical way?

o                               Find the topic sentences of all the body paragraphs.  Do they all relate to your thesis?

o                               Make an outline of your paper.  Does the organization make sense?

o                               Do certain paragraphs need more details, examples or specifics?

o                               Do any ideas seem too vague?     

o                               Are you being repetitive in your wording?

o                               Have you checked your grammar and sentence structure?

o                              Try reading your paper out loud. Did you hear any mistakes or unclear parts?

o                              Did you remove sentences/ideas that were irrelevant? "

o                              Does your conclusion wrap up the paper nicely?
