Alpha Phi Sigma Meeting
April 15, 2008
MINUTES
In Attendance: Elizabeth Coleman, Sabrina Dolson, Katelyn Gustafson, Mikel Ortega, Natalie Potter, Joe Rosa, Matthew Shaw, and Cristen Thayer.
Meeting Commenced: 12:20 P.M.

BBQ Wrap-Up: The BBQ ended up going pretty smoothly. We had some great donations and quite a few APS members came to support and help out. Thank you all who participated and donated money!
Symposium: Katelyn passed around a signup sheet for anyone who would like to help out with the symposium that we plan on holding next semester. The topic as of now will be Prostitution. It’s going to take a lot of work to put this symposium together so if anyone has the time to help, it would be greatly appreciated. If you weren’t at the meeting and would like to sign up for the Symposium Committee, just e-mail Katelyn or Sabrina. Their contact information is at end of the minutes.
Fundraising: We finally raised enough money with the BBQ to pay Debi back for the Conference trip! However, we are going to have to raise a lot more for the next semester and National Conference that is to be held in Boston! Some ideas that were brought up at the last meeting were a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sale, Bake Sale, Cup O’ Noodle (for the winter), and a Hot Chocolate Sale (for the winter). Another Vista Grill BBQ was mentioned as a great fundraising event. Elizabeth brought up the great idea of having a Basketball Tournament for police officers. Katelyn also plans on holding a Scrap booking event that will help us raise money. If you have any ideas that you would like to add, just let any of the officers know. A few of us also plan on getting together over summer to start raising money, so if you are interested in helping out then, please e-mail or call any of the officers.
Dinner Date: We plan on holding the end of the semester dinner in the Conference room upstairs in the Leifson Building. Once we pick an exact date (Katelyn is in the process of choosing a date right now) we will let everyone know. We plan on making the dinner a potluck. If you plan on attending let Katelyn or Sabrina know what you’re bringing and that will suffice as an RSVP.
Community Service: We are in the process of designing another symposium. We have received the necessary instructions from our advisors and we are ready to proceed. We have decided on a topic of prostitution. We now need firm volunteers as this is a very time consuming event but has great rewards. More is to follow at the next meeting. Please if you have any community service items that you would like us to participate in please bring them to the attention of an officer.

Goals for next year:
1. Budget- $3500-$4000
2. Recruitment- At the beginning of next semester we would like to go into the 200 level classes and inform all of the Criminal Justice majors about APS. We are also making flyers to place around the school to try and recruit more people to join APS.
3. Community Service- We can find a lot of community service ideas on Volunteermatch.org.

5. Point System- The point system will be in place next semester and in order to graduate with the Honors Regalia, there is going to be a minimum amount of points that you must accumulate. This is to ensure that everyone participates in the Honor Society.

This was the last official meeting of the semester, but please plan on attending the Dinner Date! Katelyn will let you know when it is to be held as soon as possible.
