The Core Curriculum at UNR

The Core Curriculum at the University of Nevada, Reno, is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to develop a rational and lucid personal identity, to introduce them to a variety of perspectives from which to grasp the complexity of their experiences, and to help them gain an appreciative understanding of the natural and cultural environments in which they live and of their roles as responsible citizens of the world, the nation, and the state. Structured as a "vertical" core rather than as a freshman core, the courses are intended to be taken throughout a student's coursework, culminating in interdisciplinary capstone courses.  The humanities portion of the core, the three Core Humanities courses, are normally taken after the writing courses have been completed and before the capstone courses are begun.
