Learning Outcomes for CH 202 |
|
|
A student successfully completing CH 202 at UNR will be able to: 1) Write a coherent, well-supported argument with a clear thesis, relevant claims, and careful attention to opposing claims. 2) Recognize and discuss the significance of specific ideas, values, and practices associated with the modern development of a European or Western cultural identity. 3) Read, interpret, and analyze primary texts of Europe and European colonies (in English translation) with attention to content, historical and cultural context, and language. 4) Make well-supported oral arguments about ideas, issues, and problems connected with cultural practices and developments from the Renaissance to the present. 5) Articulate how the bodies of knowledge, perspectives, principles, and modes of reasoning embodied in the humanities disciplines have contributed to modern achievements in the West. 6) Trace the sources and development of selected important modern intellectual traditions and cultural institutions. 7) Reflect on and discuss the cultural implications of arts, technologies, and scientific discoveries in the modern West. 8) Analyze the issues of social and individual identity in the modern Western contexts of nationalism, colonialism, post-colonialism, and globalization. |
