Margaret
Urie joined the English department at the University of Nevada in 1979.
She earned B.A. and M.A. degrees from Marquette University in Chicago and
a Ph.D. degree from the University of Nevada in 1978. Her dissertation
was on William Faulkner, and her teaching specialties are African-American
literature, literary nonfiction, women and literature, and Core Humanities.
Besides serving as chair of the Faculty Senate, she has directed the Core
Writing Program in the English department and is currently the Director
of Undergraduate Studies in English. She has delivered papers on the
Harlem Renaissance, women and literature, and the teaching of writing, and
she co-edited Modern English Rhetoric. An enthusiast for Lake
Tahoe and Donner Lake, she enjoys running, gardening, and downhill skiing.
