Louis Marvick,
an associate professor of French in the Department of Foreign Languages
and Literatures, has taught Core Humanities 202 since 1991. He received
the M.A. in French and the Ph.D. in comparative literature from Columbia
University. His publications include a book on the French poet Mallarmé
and the aesthetics of the sublime (SUNY Press, 1986) and articles on eighteenth-century
taste, late nineteenth-century decadence, synesthesia, and the relationship
between poetry and music.
