Horst Lange
earned his M.A. in philosophy at the University of Tübingen and his Ph.D.
in German literature at the University of Virginia. His main publications
deal with important figures of the German 18th century: the philosopher
Immanuel Kant and the poet, scientist, and statesman Johann Wolfgang Goethe.
When teaching Core Humanities 201, he focuses on the way the traditions
of the West conceive of the origins of violence and its remediation through
different systems of justice.
