Research Interests:
Historical archaeology, industrial archaeology, ecological anthropology, comparative frontiers, mining history, and archaeology of North America have been the central focus of my research.

Current Research Projects:
1)
Archaeology of colonization, including overland emigration (e.g., the sites of the Donner Party winter camps in the Sierra Nevada Mountains) and the evolution of transportation and communication networks (e.g., the Washington-Alaska Military Cable and Telegraph System in the eastern interior of Alaska).

2) Archaeology of the mining industry in the American West.

3) Archaeology of cultural identity (e.g., ethnicity of 19th century Chinese immigrants in Nevada).
