MASTER'S APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Please carefully follow the application instructions below, and download the Master's Program Application Checklist. All application materials received become the property of the Anthropology Department and will not be returned.

SECTION I

The Graduate School (domestic applicants) or the Office of International Students and Scholars (foreign applicants) should receive the following documents no later than January 15th in order to ensure timely processing:

a) Application for Graduate Admission.

b) Two official transcripts from each college and university attended for all undergraduate and graduate work completed to date.

c) Official GRE scores from ETS.

d) TOEFL Scores - applicable to foreign applicants only, unless otherwise exempt (foreign applicants must also submit their GRE scores to the Office of International Outreach and Application Services).

SECTION II

The following materials must be sent in one complete packet to:

Each document submitted must be typed. Please do not handwrite any document.

a) Three (3) letters of recommendation written by faculty from whom you have taken coursework. If you have attended more than one school at either the undergraduate or graduate level, two of the three letters should come from faculty at your most recent institution. Letters should include an assessment of verbal and writing skills.

b) Waiver Form: this form must be provided to each recommender. The recommender must include the UNR Anthropology Department waiver form with his/her letter. Download the Waiver Form here. Please use only this form.

IMPORTANT
All letters must be current and on original letterhead with an original signature. The recommender must place the letter and waiver form in an institutional letterhead envelope, sealed and signed on the back across the seal by the recommender. The department cannot accept photocopies or FAXes of letters of recommendation. Letters must be included in your packet, not sent separately. DO NOT HAVE RECOMMENDERS SEND LETTERS DIRECTLY TO THE DEPARTMENT.

c) Statement of Purpose: 2-4 pages, double spaced; please be very concise and explicit about your anthropological interests and goals.

d) Two samples of Student Writing, such as term papers or technical reports.

e) General GRE Scores: original document or copy.

f) Statement of Qualifications for Graduate Assistantship: Optional.
