Dean’s Distinguished Scholar
The Senior Scholar for the College of Liberal Arts, graduating with a perfect grade point average of 4.0, Aaron Benedetti was nominated for the Distinguished Scholar award by no fewer than five faculty members. In addition to his two majors, he has completed minors in Renewable Energy and in Medieval and Renaissance Studies.
About Aaron’s honors thesis on Renaissance drama, his thesis advisor, Dr. James Mardock, said, “My direction was less an instance of mentorship than of mutually shared research with a junior scholar.” Professor Gailmarie Pahmeier described Aaron as not only “a fine young scholar” but also “a gifted young poet.” Aaron has received a number of awards for his creative and critical writing, including many English Department scholarships and a Harvard Book Prize.
Aaron has been an active member of the campus community, serving as a consultant in the University Writing Center and participating in the Young Democrats Club, Creative Writing Club, Youth Writing Program, and Slow Food on Campus. “Because I hope to make a career for myself in the academy,” he said, “I consider myself especially fortunate to have participated in these communities and to have developed friendships from professional relationships.”
Aaron plans to begin graduate study in the fall at Sussex University in England.
