William (Bill) Macauley, Jr.

Since the mid 1990’s, Professor Macauley has been studying student empowerment and ownership of their writing. He focuses specifically on the acquisition of academic discourse and literacy for working-class and first-generation college students.
Dr. Macauley’s studies have investigated pedagogy, assignment design, writing centers and, most recently, the cognitive, psychological, and social aspects of student academic agency. He has also done significant work in writing, writing center, and writing program assessment.
