This
website is an excellent source of information for
anyone wanting to do research on the 1890 massacre
at Wounded Knee Creek in South Dakota. It also gives
an excellent account of the siege at Wounded Knee
in 1973. Not only does it have written sources included
in this website, it also has pictures, maps, slide-shows,
telegrams, journals, and newspaper articles. It provides
a brief and easy to understand summary of what went
down on Dec. 29, 1890. It also provides "hot"
links to such sites as: The Native American Rights
Fund, First Nation Histories, Bureau of Indian Affairs,
and the US House of Representatives Internet Library
of Indian Nations and Tribes. Maps in particular are
of great use to this websites account of WK
1890, for they show exactly where on the Pine Ridge
Reservation happened and it points out the location
of where major chiefs such as Sitting Bull and Red
Cloud lived with their separate tribes. One of the
most unique features of this website is perhaps the
video from Gabriel Horn, an Indian, that one can listen
to and gather information about the tradition and
dancing of the Ghost Dance religion. It also provides
lyrics to some of the Ghost Dance songs and the personal
accounts from the survivors.
