Mr. Leonard Ludel

Born in Amsterdam, Holland, Leonard Ludel came to the United States in 1913 at the age of 6 months. Raised in New York, he moved to Los Angeles in 1924 and came to Nevada in 1963. Mr. Ludel is a diamond cutter by trade, belonging to the DWPA-AFofL.

He was the founder and director of the only arrcredited school of diamond cutting in the United States. He has written two books related to the industry.

His background is Jewish though he has no religious affiliation. Mr. Ludel was President of the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and is a Past Master of his masonic Lodge. A community activist, Leonard Ludel was instrumental in obtaining a Community Center and Self Help Housing for Native Americans in the Carson Valley.He is also Chairman Emeritus of the East Fork swimming pool district.

He donates annually to the Family Support Council. He was named Carson Valley Citizen of the Year several times. In Reno, Mr. Ludel is a member of St. Mary's and Washoe Medical Hospitals Auxilliaries and a member of the Kiwanis Club.

"My socially conscious upbringing made me realize very early on the dangers of fascism. Hitlerism made me more conscious of my heritage. I have always been a humanist and always will be."
