There, he served until 2002 as a faculty member, Chairman of the Department, Interim Vice Chancellor for academic Affairs (one year), and Associate Dean of the School of Mines and Metallurgy for Graduate Studies and Research for more than 10 years. In addition to his teaching and administrative duties he performed research in the area of radiation transport and radiation protection/health physics. He has written numerous technical papers and a text entitled "Measurement and Detection of Radiation," now in its 2nd Edition. He is the co-author of the book "The Nuclear Fuel cycle: Analysis and Management," also in its 2nd Edition. The research that Dr. Tsoulfanidis has performed in the last 25 years is, primarily, in the area of photon and neutron transport. He and his students have written algorithms for specialized cases or have used existing computational tools like the MCNP Monte Carlo code. In 1995, he received many awards, the most prominent being the Glenn Murphy Award given by ASEE for "Outstanding contributions in the profession and teaching of Nuclear Engineering." Dr. Tsoulfanidis has been actively involved in accreditation matters (ABET) for about 10 years as an evaluator, member of the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC), and as a Team Chair for accreditation visits. Since June 1997, Dr. Tsoulfanidis is the Editor of Nuclear Technology. He is a Fellow of the American Nuclear Society (ANS); and he has been elected a member of the Board of ANS in 2003 for a 3-year term. |
