Civil and environmental engineering majors

Civil and environmental engineers are responsible for designing and maintaining much of the infrastructure we depend on every day. From bridges to roadways to water treatment facilities, civil and environmental engineers apply their scientific knowledge and technical expertise to make our world safer, more efficient and more sustainable. 

Our nationally ranked degree programs give you the chance to work with top faculty, who have been recognized for both their research achievements and teaching accomplishments. We also provide opportunities for undergraduate research in our state-of-the-art research labs.

Major in civil engineering

Civil engineers use their knowledge of science and engineering to design and maintain much of our world's infrastructure. They also apply their expertise to improve our quality of life, whether it's by designing safer buildings, reducing our carbon footprint or just shortening your commute.

Major in environmental engineering

Environmental engineers use their expertise to improve human health, the environment and quality of life. For example, environmental engineers may help purify drinking water, prevent water pollution or develop strategies to manage toxic or hazardous waste.
