Walk-in appointments are generally very brief sessions with a Career Development staff member and typically last 15-20 minutes in length, though can be briefer. The purpose of the walk-in session is to provide a quick and accessible format for students who want to explore questions related to academic and career issues without waiting for a regular appointment. The walk-in session will also direct students to the services provided by Career Development. Referrals to other campus services will be made, if appropriate.
In many situations, using the walk-in session will be a starting point. It is possible that after a walk-in session, the student will have the answers needed to make her/his decisions. It is also possible that a student will schedule a regular appointment with a staff member in Career Development as a result of what was discussed during the walk-in session.
To utilize the walk-in opportunity, simply come into Career Development, located in Thompson Building, Room 200. Appointments will not be made for walk-in sessions and students will be seen on a first-come, first served basis. Walk-in sessions are staffed by the professionals in Career Development.
We ask all walk-in clients to complete either the initial intake form or the repeat form. These forms are standard forms used within Career Development.
Walk-in sessions are not designed for regular career counseling. Therefore, sessions will be deliberately brief, about 20 minutes at most. If a longer session is needed, the walk-in staff member will assist the student with scheduling the longer session, which may be on a later day.
Sessions are not designed to replace advisor meetings – and we have no authority to sign as an academic advisor. We will refer students with such requests to their advisors.
The sessions are also not for mental health crisis counseling. Students in need of mental health services will be referred to Counseling Services (which is right next door to us): 784-4648
