Tips for Dressing Appropriately During Career Fairs & Interviews

Everyone
• clean, well-groomed hair with current style
• manicured nails
• ironed/pressed clothes
• polished shoes that coordinate with suit or dress
• conservative watch
• conservative colors are: navy blue, charcoal gray, olive green, tan, taupe
• bring clean copies of your résumé

Women
• classic well-tailored and well-styled suit or skirted suit (at the knee)
• white or conservative print silk blouse
• hosiery matching skirt hem or shoe
• medium heeled (maximum two inches), closed toe pumps
• well-blended make-up complimentary to skin tone
• neutral or clear nail polish without artwork

Men
• classic well-tailored and well-styled dark, solid colored suit
• white, long-sleeved dress shirt, ironed
• cuffs extend ¼ inch below suit sleeve
• silk tie that coordinates well with suit
• leather belt to match shoes
• socks match suit and shoes
• long socks so skin doesn’t show when crossing legs
• clean shaven

Avoid !
• cologne, perfume, after shave, scented deodorant
• too much make-up, over-sized jewelry
• men - no earrings
• extreme or unkempt hairstyles
• excessively long fingernails
• flashy patterns on ties
• frayed or soiled collars/cuffs
• tight clothing/poorly fitting suit
• visible tattoos, body piercings
• women – tight, short skirts, revealing blouses
