The curriculum vitae (CV) is to higher education what a résumé is to non-academic fields. It is a summary of your education and experiences but provides much greater detail. Like a résumé it is the means to develop an interest in you as a potential candidate. It will be used to evaluate how well you satisfy the requirements of a specific position. Decisions to move to the interview step are frequently based on the quality of your cover letter and CV. It is therefore critical that the document be written with clear and consistent format. Your qualifications for a particular position should be very obvious and easy to determine by the search committee. When applying for a particular position you should customize your CV to address the unique description and requirements of the opening.
