Julie Stoughton joined the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Science (NRES) in Fall Semester 2005 as a lecturer and academic advisor. Prior to joining the NRES department, Ms. Stoughton taught high school science for 10 years in California and Nevada. Ms Stoughton's department home is Natural Resources and Environmental Science (NRES) and her appointment is 90% teaching and advising, 5% service and 5% other. Her major areas of interest are environmental science and science education. Over the past several years as a Lecturer at University of Nevada, Reno, Ms. Stoughton has taught the non-majors Core B course ENV 100 (Humans and the Environment) twice every semester and the NRES 100 introductory course for NRES majors (Principles of Natural Resources and Environmental Science) each fall. Ms. Stoughton coordinates NRES department advising, and advises NRES students in four majors, approximately 125 students per semester. As part of her advising role, Ms. Stoughton leads the department Nevada Bound tours for prospective students. Ms. Stoughton has served on four University committees, three College committees, and two department committees. Ms. Stoughton has also served as a reviewer and curriculum writer for textbook publishers. She co-teaches Science Partners (ABNR/SCI 415) for undergraduate science majors who spend a semester teaching science in elementary schools every spring semester.
