The Geography Department at the University of Nevada, Reno offers a comprehensive and rigorous study of landscape change and human-environment interactions across a full complement of degrees that includes two undergraduate degrees, a minor and a master's and Ph.D. The undergraduate coursework emphasizes proficiency in human geography and physical geography, geospatial methods, and human/environment interaction. The Geography Department encourages the use of geospatial technologies (GIS, Remote Sensing, and Cartography). Departmental specialties include the American West, biogeography, climatology, cultural historical geography, land use planning and water resources.

  • Geography, Minor: A survey of Geography for students majoring in another field of study.
  • Geography, Bachelor of Arts Degree: Emphasizes proficiency in human geography and understanding of human culture and achievement and helps develops skills in a foreign language. Students will develop a specific research track that aligns with their interests with the assistance of an adviser.
  • Geography, Bachelor of Science Degree: Increases proficiency in physical geography, geospatial methods, and human/environment interactions and develops skills in mathematics and statistics.   • Geography, Doctor of Philosophy Degree: Gives students room to customize areas of study according to interest and professional goals in human and physical geography, geographic information science and cartography.
