All students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in the Summer Scholars Project.
Incoming freshmen will receive a complimentary copy the book in the mail. They are asked to read it and be prepared to participate in discussion groups during New Student Orientation.
The discussion groups will be held August 2008 in classrooms across campus. Incoming freshmen will be separated into groups based on when they arrive at orientation. Faculty will be assigned to specific groups by the Core Curriculum.
“It was interesting to see everyone’s thoughts on the book during our (Summer Scholars Project) class. It was a good experiment. If it makes everybody read a little more over the summer, and to think a little more about things like this, then it’s a good thing” – Shane Collins, first-year Nevada student and participant in the inaugural Class of 2011 Summer Scholars Project.
Sign up online to be a discussion leader or send an email to Michelle Hritz, faculty senate manager, mhritz@unr.edu.
Discussion groups will meet the afternoon of August 21 (Noon-2:00pm).
