Project: Invertrebate Sample Processing
Location: Desert Research Institute on Dandini Blvd.
Possible field work.
Pay/Credit: Hourly (no benefits), approximatley 20 hours
per week, $8.00 - $10.00 per hour depending on experience.

biology/ecology.

Project Description: A Ph.D. thesis project using genetics
as a tool to understand the ecological relationship between grizzly bears
and army cutworm moths. Lab technician(s) are needed to:
1. key out army cutworm moths from other insect species;
2. extract DNA from army cutworm moths.
Students will be taught how to: 1) use a microscope to key out army cutworm
moths from other insect species, and 2) use various lab techniques to
extract DNA from army cutworm moths. Attention to detail is imperative
in this work. Technicians will have the opportunity to learn more about
the relationship between grizzly bears and army cutworm moths and more
about army cutworm moth ecology beyond the scope of this lab work.

Project: Stream Ecology Field Work
Location: East of Yosemite National Park in the Sierra
Nevadas
Description: Work with minimal supervision collecting
biological and physical data from high mountain streams.
Pay/Credit: Biology 491 or 299 credits for successful
completion of internship. One to two nights per week will be able to use
the University of California, Santa Barbara's Sierra Nevada Aquatics Research
Field Station.
Requirments: No experience necessary. Training will be
provided. Possible flexibility with scheduling.
