All biology majors, freshman-seniors, can receive
academic credit for undergraduate research and several scholarships are available for students participating in BUR programs.

Undergraduate Research:
All biology majors-
See what the biology faculty are doing, identify a faculty mentor (assistance is available from your advisor or the undergraduate research director) and take BIOL 299, 491, 492, or 493. Research students will have an opportunity to present their findings in a poster format to the biology faculty and students at the Biology Honors Day. Consider continuing in the honors program.

Senior Thesis:
Juniors with GPA 2.5 & Biology GPA 3.0- Participate in research, take research courses and complete a written thesis. Senior Thesis students will present research findings in poster format at Biology honors day and receive acknowledgement at the awards luncheon with parents, friends, and faculty.

Degree with Distinction :
Juniors with GPA 3.0 & Biology GPA 3.5- Participate in research, take research courses and complete a written thesis. Degree with Distinction students will present an oral thesis defense on Biology honors day and receive medals at the awards luncheon with parents, friends, and faculty.

Honors Program Procedures:
Freshman/sophomores - Become a student worker in a field study or research lab, attend seminars, and check out the Biology Club.
Juniors - Identify faculty mentor, enroll in BIOL 492 or 493, and consider participation in summer research program.
Seniors, 1
st semester - Enroll in BIOL 496, submit research proposal
Seniors, 2
nd semester - Enroll in BIOL 497, complete research, write/submit thesis
