STEP 4 -Implemenation

HOW WILL YOU IMPLEMENT YOUR ASSESSMENT PLAN?

Just as the program is responsible for the Assessment Plan design and Annual Report, it also is responsible for designing and managing the varied aspects involved with implementation. Although the program Assessment Coordinator likely will provide oversight and coordination, involving faculty in the implementation process is strongly recommended.

Many of us have had the experience of seeing a creative and carefully crafted design fail to materialize because the implementation logistics were not equally well thought through. The devil is in the details! Some of the details that should be considered early on include:

For example:

Our assessment plan addresses four SLOs with 3-5 performance indicators each. The assessment methods used include course embedded assessments (papers in AA&S 215 and AA&S 330, a design project in AA&S 450, and a project in the capstone-AA&S 570). Electronic copies of all student work for these assessments will be sent by the course instructors to a database created and managed by the Program Assessment Coordinator. Because some of these courses are only taught in one semester, we will collect data throughout the year. Our professional association has an exam we suggest all graduating seniors to complete. Alumni survey data from the Assessment Office, along with student-completed course evaluations, and the results of a focus group with our graduating seniors will be stored in this database as well. All of these data will be organized relative to each of our SLO’s in presented to our collective faculty for discussion at our annual retreat. Using the curriculum map prepared by the Assessment Coordinator, we will use the assessment results to evaluate our current curriculum and discuss what actions, if any, are warranted.
