Admissions Requirements for New Freshman - University of Nevada, Reno

ASCENT mentors must be familiar with University admissions requirements in order to properly assist their Hug mentees. Mentors work with their mentees to make certain the students are enrolling in the right high school courses, achieving the needed grade point average and registering to take the ACT and/or SAT.  Mentors also work with students to apply early for the University and to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or (FAFSA).

Students who have no previous college experience, applying during their senior year of high school, or have earned less than 24 transferable college credits are considered New Freshman.  Students may apply at any time during the year; however, it recommended for students to apply during the fall of their senior year of high school.

To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman, a student must be a graduate of an approved or accredited high school, have earned a 3.0 (weighted/unweighted) GPA in the academic core courses of English (4 units), Math (3 units), Social Sciences (3 units) and Natural Science (3 units).  If a student does not meet the GPA requirement, they may use an SAT Verbal and Math combined score of 1040 or an ACT composite score of 22 in place of the GPA requirement.
