Bringing Excellence to the Campus and Community
We are proud to say the University’s School of the Arts significantly enriches the quality of life in the greater Reno community, while delivering a high-quality education to our students. Through such unique collaborative projects as The Work of Art in 2004-05 and regular programming including the Performing Arts Series, productions by Nevada Repertory Theatre Company (celebrating its 35th season this year!), and Sheppard Gallery exhibitions, the faculty and students of the University bring excellence in the visual and performing arts to the campus and local communities.
University faculty and students engage in significant community outreach as well. Faculty fill the majority of chairs in the Reno Philharmonic and Chamber orchestras, produce the Reno Jazz Festival, and contribute in important ways to Artown and the local music and arts scene. A vibrant arts and cultural scene is necessary for any community to be able to attract and retain new businesses and members of the growing “creative class.” The arts also represent a major economic engine in the community: In fiscal year 2006, the economic impact of the School of the Arts was more than $13 million. The College of Liberal Arts is proud of its School of the Arts — our most public face — and we look forward to its continued steep upward trajectory in artistry and outreach as we celebrate a number of exciting anniversaries in 2007!
