Visual Arts on campus
The Church Fine Arts Building houses four visual arts galleries with ongoing exhibits during each semester featuring photography, digital media, drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics and mixed media by University students, faculty and visiting artists. The Sheppard, McNamara, Front Door and Exit galleries are located on the second and third floors of the Church Fine Arts Building. The Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery is open Mon.-Thur., 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Fri., 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The Fitzgerald Student Services Building showcases artwork on the second floor and the “Investment Gallery” on the third floor.
The Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center includes exhibition spaces and artwork throughout the building and a sculpture garden and gallery on the first floor. Of special interest are the replicas of Lorenzo Ghiberti’s “Gates of Paradise” doors which flank the entrance to the Special Collections gallery on the third floor.
The Joe Crowley Student Union has several exhibition areas throughout the building which feature works in many different media created by University students and faculty. In addition, a major architectural component of the building features a four story public art piece “Sierra Wall” depicting the elevations of the high Sierra. Visitors are encouraged to visit the “Sierra Wall” and stop on the fourth floor for a breath-taking view of the actual Sierra Nevada!
The Black Rock Press is now located on the ground floor of the Jot Travis Building. Hours vary. Please contact Bob Blesse at (775) 682-5630 for more information.
