Like, Love, Lust:  Michael Sarich, the first full-scale survey of work by the artist, opens at the Nevada Museum of Art (NMA) on January 26, 2008. Michael Sarich is among the most prolific artists working in northern Nevada today. Since coming to Reno in 1989 to teach art at the University of Nevada, Sarich has gained attention for his multi-layered and densely packed compositions that overflow with symbols and icons that he has incorporated into his own pictorial language. Like, Love, Lust features works ranging from the artist’s early multi-layered personal narratives to his recent social commentaries. The exhibition will be on view through March 30, 2008. January 26-March 30, 2008 / Nevada Museum of Art, 160 W. Liberty St, Reno/ Admission: free for NMA members; $10 adults, $8 students/seniors.  For more information, please call (775) 329.3333 or visit www.nevadaart.org.

Performing Arts Series presents
Paragon Orchestra with silent film The Mark of Zorro
As the world’s only professional ensemble re-creating the sounds of early musical theater alongside silent cinema, the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra (PRO) came into being as the result of Rick Benjamin’s discovery of thousands of turn-of-the-century orchestra scores once belonging to Victrola recording star Arthur Pryor. “For nearly a decade now, the 12-member PRO has been touring the country in the ghostly footsteps of the 1000s of ‘theater orchestras’ that once played in every hotel and vaudeville hall . . . Few of them can have played with more bite and sparkle than the Paragon.” — American Heritage Magazine

Celebrating its 35th season –
Nevada Repertory Company presents

The Charm of Preparedness
The Charm of Preparedness is a delightful play perhaps best categorized as a “post-9/11 comedy.” Students from a rigorous liberal arts college in mid-Ohio ready themselves for a preparedness drill much like those staged by hospitals and the American Red Cross. Tim uses the drill as an opportunity to hone his acting skills; Tariq hopes to impress a nursing student; others think participation might look good on a résumé. Ultimately, each discovers preparing for an emergency presents a paradox in school and in life. How well does college prepare you for life? And how prepared can you ever be to live in the world after 9/11? Jorge Ignacio Cortiñas explores such challenging topics with laugh-out-loud humor, wry wit and disarming charm.  Directed by new Theatre faculty member Rob Gander with costume design by Michelle Davidson, set design by Michael Fernbach and lighting design by Larry Walters.
February 29, March 1, 5, 6, 7, 8,  at 7:30 p.m., March 9 at 1:30 p.m.
