Arts NIGHT OUT!

Experience the Arts

Participate in interactive arts activities, see and hear instruments up close, meet visual artists, dancers, musicians, actors, directors, conductors and designers, learn to tango (no partner required), go on a backstage tour, and learn more about the arts and how the arts are part of our everyday lives. These opportunities and more will be available throughout the Church Fine Arts Building. Join us and be
prepared to have some fun!

5:30-5:50 “Turning Thoughts into Movement”
A discussion by Barbara Land about the choreographic process and presentation of a short ballet piece “Hopes and Dreams” based on music from Lord of the Rings

5:50-6:10 Scenes from Juvenilia and This is Our Youth presented by Nevada Repertory Theatre

6:10-6:30 Wolf Pack Woodwind Quintet instrument introduction and performance

6:30-6:50 “Everyone wants to Tango”
Join professional dancer and instructor Suzette Feinlein as she demonstrates the Tango! After this, Ms. Feinlein is teaching a Tango class. No partner required!

6:50-7:10 Monologues presented by Theatre Division students

7:10-7:30 “Think Fast!”
Experience an on-the-spot creation of a performance by the University of Nevada, Reno Improvised Music Ensemble and members of the University Dance Program.

“Pride of the Sierra”

Meet the “TUBAS,” Band Performances and Auction 5:30-8:00 p.m., Room 110
Your chance to meet the “TUBAS” in person, to listen to the “Pride of the Sierra” perform some of your favorite rally songs and bid on auction items and help the band raise money to support future band activities.

Glow Show“Glow Show”

TBA, Sculpture Studio Lab, Room 21
Feel the heat and see the glow with a bronze pour in the foundry area of the sculpture studio. Timing of the bronze pour is dependent on many factors so it is difficult to predict, but all efforts will be made to pour during Arts Night Out!. We’ll keep you posted.

Eco-SophiaEco-Sophia: The Artist of Life

5:30-8:00 pm, Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery
This group exhibition is inspired by an essay, Eco-Sophia (1989) written by German philosopher Wolfgang Schirmacher. Eco (trans. house) - sophia (trans. wisdom) implicates the inner intelligent self as the deepest and most dynamic location of wisdom and survival. Artwork is about the necessary yet complicated and nuanced symbiotic relationship between technology, the environment and individual agency. The exhibition features Allora & Calzadilla, Ann Hamilton, Kahn & Selesnick, Andrea Polli, and Paul Stout.

Join Cari Cunningham, assistant professor of dance, in a discussion dealing with the creation of sitespecific dance work and the premiere performance of "Arts Night Out!" created in celebration of the School of the Arts.

After touring as a banjo-playing teenage prodigy, Alison Brown took a detour through Harvard, then UCLA to earn an MBA, and two years in finance with Smith Barney. Thankfully for bluegrass audiences
everywhere, she returned to her musical roots, earning Grammys to go with that MBA. She’ll be joined by mandolinist, violinist and percussionist extraordinaire, Joe Craven, whose own credentials as a member of the Garcia/Grisman band put him in esteemed company indeed.
