The School of the Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno plays a vital role in the cultural and artistic life of the campus and community.
The school comprises three degree-granting departments of art, music, and theatre and dance, and several attendant programs, including the Argenta Concert Series, Black Rock Press, Lake Tahoe Music Camp, Nevada Chamber Opera, Nevada Repertory Company, Performing Arts Series, Reno Jazz Festival and Sheppard Contemporary. Our 600 undergraduate and graduate student, pursuing both majors and minors, have the good fortune to learn from and interact with distinguished faculty who are not only all experts in their fields, but also some of the most creative, imaginative and inspiring artists around.
As I write this, I am pleased to report that the Church Fine Arts building is under construction. "Act I" renovations will transform Redfield Proscenium Theatre into a premier space for its audiences and performers alike, expand our scene shop and provide us with a beautiful new Virginia Street entrance. Construction should be completed by March 2014, and we very much look forward to showing off our new look.
Even as we work to complete Act I, we are planning ahead and fundraising for "Act II." When completed, Act II will provide several new spaces for art and music in a building adjacent to Church Fine Arts, including a new Sheppard Contemporary gallery and a 300-seat recital hall.
Please take a moment to browse our website, which features images and stories by and about our faculty and students, as well as links to each of the School's constituent departments and our ever-bustling calendar of events. You also will find all of the practical information you'll need about our academic programs.
Above all, I hope it will inspire you to join us on campus as we explore, support, teach and create the arts in the 21st century.
