Visual Lecture by Michael Barnes on artist's Printmaking artwork. Reception to follow in Sheppard Gallery. Thursday March 13th, 5:30 - 6:30pm UNR CFA 153 BIO Michael was born in 1969 in Alma, Michigan. He received his BFA from Alma College, Michigan in 1991 and his MFA from the University of Iowa in 1996, both with a focus on Printmaking. Further studies include a summer Lithography workshop at the Tamarind Institute of Lithography in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He has also participated in number residencies at the Frans Masereel Centrum in Belgium, The Bemis Center of Contemporary Art in Omaha, Nebraska, and the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, North Dakota. He is currently an Associate Professor of art and Head of the Printmaking program at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois where he has taught since 1998. His work has been exhibited in over 100 competitive group exhibitions since 1996, including exhibitions in Wales, Poland, Taiwan, Estonia, Japan, Romania, Finland, and the Republic of Macedonia. His recent solo exhibitions include Street Level Gallery Highwood, Illinois; the OIA - Gallery 402, New York City; Anchor Graphics in Chicago; Cervini Haas Gallery, Scottsdale, Arizona, Northern Kentucky University; St. Cloud State University, Minnesota; and a two person exhibition at Centre Gallery, Miami-Dade Community College, Florida. Recent group exhibitions include “Introductions”, Davidson Galleries, Seattle, “Bookplates”, Printworks, Chicago, "Drawing VII", Koplin Del Rio Gallery, West Hollywood, "Outlaw Printmakers", (a traveling exhibition which has shown at Big Cat Gallery, New York, Dennis Morgan Gallery, Kansas City, and Kelly Rae Theiss Gallery, Minneapolis), "New Prints", International Print Center, New York, "The New Hybrid", Long Island University, Brooklyn campus, and "Repo(session)", Gallery 312, Chicago. Michael has received numerous awards, including an Illinois Arts Council Grant and a Finalist Award. His work is included in many collections, including the Museum of Fine Art, Boston, The Royal Museum of Art, Antwerp, Belgium, the City of Vaasa, Finland, The Plains Art Museum, Fargo, North Dakota, and many university and private collections. Michael’s work is represented by Campbell Steele Gallery, Marion, Iowa; Cervini Haas – Gallery Materia, Scottsdale, Arizona; Davidson Galleries, Seattle, Washington; Kevin Quandt Fine Arts, Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Shy Rabbit Contemporary Arts, in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. |
