Permanent Collection

Our permanent collection currently holds over 1,000 works of art created primarily by artists residing, past and present, in the state of Nevada.   In the summer of 2005, with the support of the College of Liberal Arts we started the process of re-organizing the permanent collection which is housed just below the gallery on the first floor of the Church Fine Arts complex.   The newly organized storage system for the permanent collection is now allowing us to begin the process of cataloguing and documenting all of the works.   This important effort is currently being undertaken by a volunteer. Our goal is to digitally photograph each work in the collection and create a searchable database of information regarding each piece.   Every work in the collection will be accessible to the public at large through the University of Nevada, Reno web site.   We are currently working with Robert Blesse, head of Special Collections, to incorporate the permanent collection into the UNR database. This will allow anyone throughout the world with access to an internet connection to view the works included in our permanent collection.   Long term goals include the creation of traveling exhibitions and a system for the  loan or rental of works and the ongoing acquisition of artworks by established and emerging Nevada artists.
