Post-Petroleum:
Envisioning the Future of Suburban Space in America Artists from throughout the country include:Meg Aubrey. Cynthia Back. Jacob Bluestone. Jennilie Brewster. Jason Burch. Kim Jackson DeBord. Jeff Gillette. Matt Grover. Mike McDearmon. David Packer. Tyler Robbins. Meagan Shein. Sofia Silvi. Michael Seltzer. Sheppard Gallery invited artist Christine Pinney Karkow to devise an exhibition theme and curate a show based upon that theme. Post-Petroleum explores the ramifications of the automobile-scaled, sprawling suburban spaces that make up the edge towns and suburban rings of American cities in an age when the very foundation of this way of life - - inexpensive gasoline - - has been severely undermined. The artwork, which includes all media such as painting, video and sculpture, investigates these types of spaces as they exist today, as well as also suggest a narrative of a future society forced to navigate and live in these sprawling spaces with considerably limited access to fossil fuels. Karkow will lecture about this theme and the process of curating the artwork at the closing reception in the gallery on July 31st. Please view the exhibition artworks, read articles by the curator, get infomation and links to the artists, and post your own images and writings on the theme at the following online link: http://www.cpkarkow.com/post_petroleum/ Exhibition Run: July 1 – July 31,
