Joanna Frueh

Professor, Art History

Joanna Frueh is an art critic and art historian and a performance artist, a writer, a poet, and a singer. Recognized as a leader in her fields, a daring and innovative scholar and multidisciplinary artist whose work is “ecstatic and unpredictable” (James Elkins, Visual Studies, Routledge: 2003), she is a thinker and performer whose readers and audience learn that they themselves are the body, mind, and soul of love. In her book Monster/Beauty: Building the Body of Love, she develops a theory and practice of personal beauty. Her book Erotic Faculties is a collection of her critical and performance writings.
