Rebekah Bogard's residency at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts

Rebekah Bogard, Assistant Professor of Ceramics is currently attending a residency in Omaha, NE at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Art; a non-profit organization who's mission is to recognize and support exceptional artistic talent. The Bemis Center is one of the few places in the world where the sole mission is to support creativity. Each year, they receive approximately 600 applications for a three-month residency, of which only 24 artists are selected by a jury of artists and professionals.

The Bemis Center provides it's residents with a stipend, a well equipped studio space to live and work in, and full-time technical support. Artists come from around the world to work within this supportive community, ideal for creative growth enhanced by dialogue and interaction with the selected residents and the Omaha community. Residents enjoy a focused, art-making experience as they are removed from their normal-daily responsibilities with additional opportunity to build relationships, network, and generate ideas.

The Bemis Center was founded 25 years ago and is considered among the top 5 residencies in the world. With such long standing success, it is often used as a model for budding residencies. However, The Bemis Center is unique due to it's expansive space, urban setting, and lack of demands placed upon it's residents. Since it's founding, The Bemis Center has supported the work of more than 600 artists world wide. Residents experience continued sense of a home base in Omaha long after their departure as the ties to The Bemis Center continue to flourish.
