"Gulf
War Memories",
1993, 80x24x24", mixed media, light, fans, chick bones,
metal
An absurd memorial for an absurd conflict.
"Gulf War Memories" represents the ironic nature of our national obsession
with this most recent television war which was consumed and forgotten
as readily as a fast food dinner. The bones from previously eaten Kentucky
Fried Chicken are carefully suspended in front of sixteen whirling box
fans, angled towards the viewer of the piece. The images were culled from
videotapes rented from the "Gulf War Video" section of the local
video store while the artist was living in Tampa, Florida, home of General
Norman Schwartzkoff.
