Home of the Wolf Pack

Located in the picturesque Truckee Meadows at the base of the Sierra Nevada, the University of Nevada, Reno has served as the state’s flagship institution since its founding in 1874. As the first institution of higher learning founded in the state, the University has a rich tradition of providing instruction, research and outreach.
As Nevada has undergone unprecedented growth, ranking as the country’s fastest-growing state over much of the past two decades, the University has also played an instrumental role in delivering top graduates and leaders in many fields to the state.

In his inaugural speech in 2006, President Milton Glick acknowledged the University’s unique and important role for Nevada: one that honors
the state’s fiercely independent spirit of the past, a history predicated on the risk-taking and trailblazing of the Comstock Lode, and one that works to transform the University’s vast storehouse of expertise into graduates poised to lead the state in the 21st century.

“Where is the next silver rush?” Glick asked. “The next Comstock Lode is not in the hills of Nevada – it is in the minds of Nevadans.”
