About the Advising Center
MISSION STATEMENT
It is the mission of the Academic Advising Center to implement and maintain exemplary practices in providing quality academic advising to undecided freshmen, transfer students, and Bachelor of General Studies students at the University of Nevada, Reno. The Academic Advising Center assists students in major planning and exploration, understanding core curriculum requirements, provides referrals to relevant campus resources, and delivers a meaningful First Year Experience course.
HOW THE ADVISING CENTER OPERATES
- The Advising Center operates on an appointment basis. Occassionally during the first few days of the beginning of the semester we offer limited walk-in hours. Please make sure when making appointments that you have your student ID number (R number) available as it is very important for verification in making appointments.
- Contact our main office line at (775) 784-4684 to schedule appointments.
- Students are not assigned to a particular advisor, but are welcome to request a specific advisor.
- Please make sure you arrive on time or early to your appointments. The advisor reserves the right to reschedule appointments if you are late.
WHEN SHOULD YOU SEE YOUR ADVISOR?
- Every semester prior to your registration date
- To discuss academic progress
- To find out more about a particular major or minor
- To discuss any problems that might affect your academic performance
- To discuss dropping a class, and the possible impact from your decision (financial aid, full-time status, etc.)
- To discuss graduate and professional options and receive appropriate referrals
- To monitor progress toward graduation
